The Rise and Fall of The Kingdom of Avalon
The harsh struggles of Mankind did not fade away either. Rivalries formed and ill-tempered political minds formed at the very top echelons of this kingdom. Squabbles over the rights to resources and expansion paved the path to the first drops of blood being spilled once again. The greed of men, a believed natural born trait, soon tore down the hastily built foundations. Ignorant to the chaos sparking below the high and mighty lords, they continued warring amongst each other, too busy focusing on the race for riches than the incoming storm. The promise of a new age would quickly be interrupted as civil wars split the new galaxy into many segments. The defying and the reckless, the traitors skulking in the deep roots of the blind, erupted forth and spread their chaotic darkened taint across the known sectors. Spurring the minds of the forgotten expanse and bringing destruction upon this ‘second coming’ of man. Generations of the neglected and resentful took to the stars to slaughter their preying overlords.
The Kingdom of Avalon erupted into multiple violent and savage civil wars. The armies of Avalon struggled to hold the strain of cracking systems under wraps, eventually reeling under the violent onslaught. As the kingdom crumbled, the rebelling forces relentlessly conquered entire systems, claiming many worlds within the first few weeks of the collapse. With the violence spreading across the realms of man, The Great Rune was shattered… By whom? That was the impossible question. How and what caused the unbreakable to shatter? Was the violence of man to blame? Or was it a greater power? This shattering was felt across mankind, as if the fracturing of The Great Rune damaged realspace itself. Subsequently, as the Great Rune lay broken, the lesser runes began to fracture. The ancient power humanity gorged itself upon abandoned them. As the war raged on, the power of the most destructive weapons humanity could muster were soon unleashed. Atomic storms of death spurred into the deep darkness of Andromeda, fuelling the disturbance from The Great Rune and unexpectedly forcing entities of great destruction to pour forward and tear the flesh from the bones of men. The monstrosities that poured through great rifts, creatures of myth and legend swiftly became reality. These beasts bought forth by the intense fire and radiation storms were akin to demons themselves. Many thought such monsters were impossible or simply tales from the victims of the brutal wars. Although written encounters of such horrors were rare, as well as the reports of demonic incursions being unreliable, these entities all had the same descriptions. No remorse, no fear and no fatigue. Warped and twisted in visions of rage and hatred, wherever these demonic entities were reported, only death and misery followed as the escalating civil wars ravaged the worlds of mankind. Whatever the truth holds for the inhabitants of this new galaxy remains a mystery, one would be utterly foolish to write off anything that cannot be understood.
The Kingdom of Avalon fell into flames and ruin, splitting apart the many thousands of colonies. The collapse led the way to an insurrection, one that would ultimately change the existence of man forever. The ADF.
The Aftermath of the collapse saw humanity fragmented. Separated and isolated. Now was the perfect opportunity for the resentful alien species to take well deserved revenge…
The expansion of Mankind in Andromeda was thoroughly left unopposed. The odd minor skirmish against some squabbling backwater xenos species was swept aside when the legions of hopeful humans came to claim their new worlds. As each decade passed, the taint of humanity claimed thousands of new habitable planets. The embers of man once more started to light, promising a chance of a second life.
Humanity stood unchallenged for two thousand Terran years in Andromeda. With the discovery of The Great Runes humanity was unstoppable. Population explosions, rampant drives for resources and an ever-extending reach of expansion stretched far and wide. The original colonists of the Rebirth era became all but a distant memory as our species played ignorant to the woes of the past. The sheer scale of humanities reach in Andromeda was unmatched, although the faithful troubles of such a gigantic beast could never be foolproof. Original world’s first colonised became beaming hubs of interstellar traffic, collecting and harbouring all sorts of vast networks and riches. But underneath the shadows of success, many worlds were left to fall into disrepair and neglect. The very greedy nature of humanity travelled with the species into this new galaxy, clinging to their very souls like a parasite.
To combat the ever-growing and split colonies, Mankind, led by its mighty rulers, formed The Kingdom of Avalon. A vast commune of planetary governments and colonies were swept up to form a mighty kingdom to manage and reorganise the wildfire humanity unleashed. This ‘Kingdom’ couldn’t be any less so, its grip on the expanse was reduced with little tithes, as humanities colonies were free to roam as it desired. Although a line of succession would be instated, these so called ‘Kings’ had little power. Humanities joint colonies paid little attention to the puppets of this new kingdom. Expansion did not slow down anyhow, as the new powers and ever multiplying populations always demanded more.
The Kingdom of Avalon did as always have those beneath it who purposely defied the will of the throne, seeking to further their own selfish needs or tear down the very society that saw no value in them. Traitors and heretics recklessly believing that they do not owe their continued existence to Avalon, cast aside their oaths of loyalty and clamour to the mere slither of power that settles in their grasp. A hidden darkness was forming across the colonies; one the bloated lords of men would carelessly ignore. There could be no forgiveness for these traitors, only a harsh and brutality oppressive measure of unbending rules to stout the potential of revolts. The survival of humanity heeds no excuses.
